Earthly Ethics
We set up Earthly Treasures with the idea of "Slow Commodities" in mind. In line with the "Slow Food" movement, we believe our everyday commodities - from fashion to furnishings - should be good, clean and fair. In other words, they should be well-made; produced in a clean way that does not harm the environment, animal welfare or our health; and producers should receive fair compensation for their work.
We still stand firmly by our original principles. Moreover we are proud to offer a very personal, friendly and efficient service, just as it used to be before the advent of call centres! Every order is processed and packaged by one of our small team, and if you have a query, that is who you will speak to.
Fair Trade, Organic & Ethical Alternatives
We work with a number of UK-based suppliers of Fair Trade clothing and accessories, all of whom work closely with established manufacturers to ensure fair working conditions, and buy directly from the producers to ensure profit goes direct to those who earned it and not to contractors or middle men.
We are pleased to say that an increasing number of our garments are now supplied in organic cotton. Grown using methods and materials that have a low impact on the environment, organic cotton is purer, softer, hypoallergenic and more comfortable than non-organic cotton. Additionally we are also excited to offer more environmentally friendly alternatives to cotton, such as hemp and bamboo.

We believe strongly in sustainability, and we strive to offer you a beautifully presented product with minimal impact upon the environment. Read about our Green Packaging practice.
Giving a Little Back
We feel strongly that being a 'consumer' needn't be all bad. We all need our little luxuries (and necessities!) and buying those in an ethical way helps redress the balance. As well as sourcing beautiful, ethically produced items, we also support a variety of causes which we feel strongly about. For every order, we donate a percentage of our proceeds to the following charities and NFP organisations:
- Four Winds Inspiration Centre is a small, environmental education and craft based charity situated within Inverleith Park, Edinburgh. They offer a wide range crafts and herbal classes for Adults, some subjects with a Parent & Child joint place option. Four Winds is also the founder and event organiser of Edinburgh Treefest & Wood Market, the popular, free, environmentally themed festival held annually in Inverleith Park 2002 - 2009.
In addition we show our support for the sterling work done by Positive News by including a free copy with every order! The publication focuses on issues rarely covered by the mainstream media and promotes the many individuals and enterprises that are working to create a more healthy, humane and environmentally sustainable world.
